At TEDx Kolkata, Sayan Chakraborty shared his vision of restoring Bengal's historic status as a commercial powerhouse. Reclaiming economic leadership requires a systematic dismantling of cultural barriers surrounding entrepreneurship and building modern institutional support rails.
1. Changing the Social Conversation
For too long, failure in business was treated as a societal warning sign rather than a learning milestone. We must change the narrative in families:
- Academic Support: Encouraging universities to support student-run projects.
- Family Endorsement: Helping parents understand that a startup is a valid, high-impact career path.
- Local Champions: Highlighting local founders who have scaled operations nationally.
2. Sowing Seeds locally
The "Bangali Byabsha Korbe" movement started as a response to this lack of confidence. By creating regional startup circles and workshops, we are showing the youth that they can bootstrap, build, and scale from Kolkata without migrating to other tech hubs.
